Aerostatic - Funck
This is a video I performed for Forward Motion Theaters - Eyewash DVD, 3rd release. The DVD is a showcase of selected video and audio artists who performed at Eyewash. I was fortunate to be paired with Aerostatic, an incredible duo producing breakbeat, ambient, IDM, downtempo and atmosphereic music. The track is “Funck” from their album “Code”.
I shot all footage one weekend of myself and my girlfriend - an odd experience as I usually have no… people… in the video I perform or record. Doubly odd to use myself and Mary Ann, as I had no models to shoot. Performed live with a single laptop and midi controller. Im happy with how it turned out - I think it captures some essence of the song. The video is the first take, which somehow worked better than the second and third. No post processing, no re-editing, color correct or modification. Not even any sequencing.* This is right out of the s-video port. Im a bit hesitant to post it, but since it will be on the DVD, I figure I might as well. I am eager to see the other work presented. I should note this was from about a month and a half ago.
*Yes, im currently building that module now for v001, this project taught me how invaluable such a mechanism is. Im all about doing as much live as possible, treating the machine as an instrument, but there is a limit - I only have 2 hands and 10 fingers.

Mmmm, nice one. Love the additive blending, and used to great effect to build this piece.
I very often find that the first performance is the best.. But it’s great to record everything so you can go back over and see what you’ve done
What do you use for capture from S-Video?

Thank you sir! We used FCP and an uncompressed capture card. I think my friends had a decklink, but im uncertain, it wasnt my rig. Yeah, often times the impromptu and playful stuff comes out better than the highly / overly prepared stuff that is too thought through.

[…] As my visuals project has evolved, I’ve named each version after the event I was working towards. Last week, hopeSYSTM gave way to aeroSYSTM. vade and I played like rockstars with the amazing and lovely Aerostatic for last Friday’s Eyewash. Back in 2007, Anton did a music video for one of their songs which had some footage of me in it. For the performance, we played a live remix of Funck, and it was fun taking a more active role this time around. […]
